FlightDeck is designed for the Pixhawk, Pixhawk 2.1 “The Cube” and other flight controllers running ArduPilot flight stack. Linux-based flight controllers are not guaranteed to work.

Telemetry cables can be used on the ArduPilot and the PX4 flight stacks (without FlightDeck) to get basic FrSky telemetry displayed on a compatible RC transmitter (Taranis and others).

FlightDeck comes in two flavors:

  • For the FrSky Taranis X9D, X9D Plus, and X9E, use FlightDeck
  • For the FrSky Taranis Q X7 and Q X7S, use FlightDeckQ

FlightDeck also requires the use of a Smart Port telemetry receiver (e.g., X8R, R-XSR, S8R, R9).

FlightDeck is an OpenTX app which must be installed on your Taranis.

FlightDeck requires the ArduPilot firmware/flight stack on your flight controller, and works with ArduCopter, ArduPlane, and ArduRover.

While battery pack voltage is usually a good indicator of remaining flight time, flight time is actually limited by the lowest cell voltage. Once the voltage of a cell drops below a certain level, that cell’s voltage will continue to drop dramatically, which in turn causes the battery pack voltage to drop and may irreparably damage the battery pack.

By using a FrSky FLVSS or MLVSS LiPo Voltage Sensor, FlightDeck displays the lowest cell voltage (which is not available through Mission Planner) in addition to the battery pack voltage. You can actually connect up to two FLVSS/MLVSS sensors, as FlightDeck supports up to two 6S batteries!

FlightDeck generates visual and audible alerts if the battery voltage or cell voltage levels are too low, or if the cells are out of balance. When that happens, it’s time to land!

The HUD is wicked fast! The transmission delay of the FrSky telemetry is extremely short and the bandwidth allows for over 24 updates per second.
The RC transmitter and receiver included with the IRIS+ do not support FrSky Smart Port technology, and thus are not compatible with FlightDeck. However, if you install a FrSky Smart Port telemetry (X series) receiver (e.g., X8R, XSR) on the IRIS+ and have a Taranis, you can use FlightDeck! Please check out the installation video below:
